{"id":913,"date":"2007-12-01T22:32:08","date_gmt":"2007-12-02T06:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=913"},"modified":"2007-12-01T22:59:10","modified_gmt":"2007-12-02T06:59:10","slug":"draftbloggercom-betas-openid-for-blogger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/?p=913","title":{"rendered":"draft.blogger.com betas OpenID for blogger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blogger.com now supports <a href=\"http:\/\/openid.net\/\">OpenID <\/a>on its <a href=\"http:\/\/draft.blogger.com\">beta site<\/a>.\u00a0 I have to congratulate\u00a0the blogger.com\u00a0team\u00a0on the user experience they&#39;ve created.\u00a0 This is not necessarily their final kick-at-the-can,\u00a0but I like what they&#39;ve done so far.<\/p>\n<p>Blog owners have a simple radio-button selection to determine who can comment:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img border=\"0\" vspace=\"10\" src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2007\/11\/blogger_commenting.jpg\" hspace=\"10\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From then on,\u00a0when\u00a0someone visits the blog as a user and wants to make a comment,\u00a0they are given the choice of how to identify themself.\u00a0 Choose &#8220;Any OpenID&#8221; and you are given\u00a0the chance to enter one.\u00a0 Click on that, and you are redirected to your OpenID provider.<\/p>\n<p><img border=\"0\" vspace=\"10\" src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2007\/11\/blogger.jpg\" hspace=\"10\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#39;s what it looked like for me.\u00a0 I wanted to congratulate the team for their great work, so I\u00a0filled out\u00a0a comment form like this:<\/p>\n<p><img border=\"0\" src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2007\/11\/blogger_comment_1.jpg\" hspace=\"30\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then\u00a0I pressed &#8220;Publish Your Comment&#8221;\u00a0and got this:<\/p>\n<p><img border=\"0\" src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2007\/11\/blogger_comment_2.jpg\" hspace=\"30\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That&#39;s because I use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myopenid.com\" class=\"broken_link\">myopenid.com<\/a>, which\u00a0for me is\u00a0phishproof because of its great Information Card support (in other words, no password is involved and no credential can be stolen).<\/p>\n<p>That&#39;s it folks.\u00a0 I pressed send and got:<\/p>\n<p><img border=\"0\" src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2007\/11\/blogger_comment_3.jpg\" hspace=\"10\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Why\u00a0is this implementation so good?\u00a0 Because it doesn&#39;t torment you, doesn&#39;t make you set up an account, doesn&#39;t make you create a password you don&#39;t need, and doesn&#39;t nag you to join Blogger when that isn&#39;t in the cards.\u00a0 And it\u00a0puts full control\u00a0over the kinds of\u00a0credentials to accept into the hands of the\u00a0bloggers\u00a0 themselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is the kind of experience I have envisaged and have been waiting for.\u00a0 I think it is a sign of things to come,\u00a0since\u00a0many other sites are\u00a0looking\u00a0at the same concepts.\u00a0 There\u00a0is\u00a0going to be a &#8220;conflagration&#8221; when people start to &#8220;get it&#8221;.\u00a0 Just look at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogger.com\/comment.g?blogID=5585733423857160064&amp;postID=615127829770576860\">the comments<\/a>.\u00a0 There could be a lot of people who do join Blogger just because they&#39;ve been handed a carrot, not given the stick.<\/p>\n<p>One last aside on the low-friction thing.\u00a0 Once I&#39;ve gone through the dance above, I can continue to post at Blogger.com <em>and all other sites<\/em> with which I&#39;ve established relationships &#8211; without further authentication.\u00a0\u00a0 That is very powerful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This Blogger enhancement doesn&#39;t nag and doesn&#39;t torment.
