{"id":825,"date":"2007-06-29T21:55:32","date_gmt":"2007-06-30T05:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=825"},"modified":"2007-06-29T22:08:25","modified_gmt":"2007-06-30T06:08:25","slug":"charles-fitzgerald-doing-platformonics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/?p=825","title":{"rendered":"Charles Fitzgerald doing &#8220;platformonics&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just discovered that Charles Fitzgerald, General Manager of Platform Strategy at MS, has started a blog called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.platformonomics.com\/\">Platformonics<\/a>.&nbsp; I know a lot of industry people will&nbsp;be interested&nbsp;&#8211; Charles has really been around the block at the highest level.&nbsp; I think he learned more from &#8220;Hailstorm&#8221; than anyone else who I&#39;ve spoken to.&nbsp;&nbsp;Beyond that, he&#39;s a great business person,&nbsp;well-read and beautifully&nbsp;wry.&nbsp; Here&#39;s a piece full of implications called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.platformonomics.com\/ThereIsNoFreeLunchEspeciallyInFrance.aspx\" class=\"broken_link\">There is no free lunch (especially in France)<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The BBC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.platformonomics.com\/ct.ashx?id=ffb5c165-a47a-4040-9a1d-11c023104a05&amp;url=http%3a%2f%2fnews.bbc.co.uk%2f1%2fhi%2fbusiness%2f6221146.stm\" class=\"broken_link\">reports<\/a> the French security service has told French government officials not to use Blackberries because their data is stored in foreign countries and could be susceptible to prying eyes. Expect many more such awakenings going forward to the tradeoffs to putting data in the cloud.&nbsp; Not just national security concerns, but trade secrets, privacy and compliance requirements will all require people to think&nbsp;more explicitly about the risks and tradeoffs of where you put your data and what can happen to it.&nbsp; Today&#39;s all or nothing approach&nbsp;is a crummy way to do it.
