But could be simplified.<\/p>\n<p>InfoCard is simply Novell&#39;s old <a href=\"http:\/\/www.findarticles.com\/p\/articles\/mi_qa3649\/is_199910\/ai_n8875932\"><font color=#0069c3>DigitalME<\/font><\/a> decentralized (as Novell&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.networkworld.com\/newsletters\/dir\/2000\/1113dir1.html\" class=\"broken_link\"><font color=#0069c3>personal directory<\/font><\/a> intended it to be) and hopped up on Web Services SOA.<\/p>\n<p>In many ways, it could also be described as Passport without the Big Brother implications of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.networkworld.com\/newsletters\/dir\/2002\/01318605.html\" class=\"broken_link\"><font color=#0069c3>Hailstorm<\/font><\/a>&#8220;, hopped up on SOA. <\/p>\n<p>The important thing to remember, I think, is that there&#39;s nothing new here except the joining together of the personal directory with the panoply of specs and protocols that make up Service Oriented Architectures. That&#39;s no small accomplishment, of course, especially for a company as vilified for it&#39;s security and privacy policies as Microsoft is. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=ltr style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">It has certainly been my intention to invent as little as possible, so I thank Dave for pointing out my lack of a contribution in this regard.  <\/p>\n<p dir=ltr style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">Decentralization is certainly a big part of what is being proposed.  The ablility to support multiple (and evolving) underlying security technologies is also a key property.  So is the new approach to integrating the user into the experience and keeping it consistent across contexts and technologies.
