{"id":1160,"date":"2010-11-17T09:17:57","date_gmt":"2010-11-17T17:17:57","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=1160"},"modified":"2010-11-17T09:30:29","modified_gmt":"2010-11-17T17:30:29","slug":"vittorios-new-book-is-must-read","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/?p=1160","title":{"rendered":"Vittorio&#39;s new book is a must-read"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img class=\"alignright\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/11\/WIF_Programming.gif\" alt=\"Vittorio&#39;s new book\" \/>If you\u00a0are a programmer\u00a0interested in identity,\u00a0I doubt you&#39;ll find a\u00a0more instructive or amusing video than <a href=\"http:\/\/player.microsoftpdc.com\/Session\/0099d03d-bbc4-4612-87e1-f7d4da8b8a78\" class=\"broken_link\">this one<\/a>\u00a0by Vittorio Bertocci.\u00a0 It&#39;s\u00a0aimed at people who work in .NET and\u00a0explores the\u00a0Windows Identity Foundation.\u00a0\u00a0 I expect\u00a0most programmers\u00a0interested in identity\u00a0will find it fascinating no matter what platform they work on, even if it just provides a point of comparison.<\/p>\n<p>And that brings me to Vittorio&#39;s new book:\u00a0 Programming Windows Identity Foundation.\u00a0 I really only have one thing to say about it:\u00a0\u00a0you are crazy\u00a0to program in WIF without reading\u00a0this book.\u00a0\u00a0And if you&#39;re an\u00a0architect rather than a coder &#8211; but still\u00a0have a sense of reading code &#8211; you&#39;ll find that subjects\u00a0like delegation\u00a0benefit\u00a0immensely from the concrete presentation Vittorio has put together.<\/p>\n<p>I have to admit to being sufficiently\u00a0engrossed that I had to\u00a0drop everything I was doing in order\u00a0to deal with\u00a0some\u00a0of the miniature brain-waves the\u00a0book induced.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But then, I have\u00a0a soft spot for good books on programming.\u00a0 I&#39;m talking about books that have real depth but are simple and exciting because the writer has the same clarity\u00a0as programmers\u00a0have when\u00a0they are in &#8220;programming trance&#8221;.\u00a0 I used to even take a bunch of books with me when I went\u00a0on vacation\u00a0&#8211; it drove my mother-in-law\u00a0nuts.<\/p>\n<p>I&#39;m not going to try to descibe Vittorio&#39;s book &#8211; but it really hangs together, and if you&#39;re trying to do anything original or complex it will give you the depth of understanding you need to do it efficiently.\u00a0 Just as important, you&#39;ll enjoy reading it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you like good books about programming, I recommend this one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":68,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[37,19,6,2,40],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1160"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/68"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1160"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1160\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1160"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1160"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1160"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
