{"id":1027,"date":"2008-11-09T16:15:21","date_gmt":"2008-11-10T00:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=1027"},"modified":"2009-06-10T07:22:40","modified_gmt":"2009-06-10T15:22:40","slug":"leaving-a-comment-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.identityblog.com\/?p=1027","title":{"rendered":"Leaving a comment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since one of my goals is to introduce people to Information Cards &#8211; and because I used to get <em>mountains of spam comments and\u00a0worse<\/em> (!)\u00a0&#8211; I require people to\u00a0either write to me or use an Information Card\u00a0when leaving comments on my blog.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>(This blog is hosted for me by <strong>Joyent<\/strong>, and it runs on open source software (WordPress, PHP, MySQL, Apache, OpenSolaris).\u00a0 For Information Card support, it uses Pamelaware, an open-source project\u00a0offering\u00a0an Information Card\u00a0plugin for WordPress and other popular programs.)<\/p>\n<p>Information Cards\u00a0use an &#8220;identity selector&#8221;.\u00a0 Vista has the CardSpace V1 selector built right in.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(If you\u00a0\u00a0don&#39;t use Vista\u00a0please continue\u00a0<a href=\"\/?p=752\">here<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Also, if you are wondering about our new beta of Windows CardSpace Geneva &#8211; V2 if you want &#8211; I&#39;ll deal with that in a separate post.)<\/p>\n<h2>How you register at my site<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> Click the Information Card logo or the &#8220;LOG IN&#8221; option in the upper right hand corner of the blog.\u00a0 (Clicking the logo saves you\u00a0the\u00a0step where you can learn about Information Cards).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"464\" height=\"315\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> If you clicked the logo, go to step 3.\u00a0 If you have clicked &#8220;LOG IN&#8221;, you will see this page and can explore the &#8216;Learn More&#8217; and other tabs.\u00a0 When ready, click on the Information Card logo to proceed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_pamela.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"331\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>3. CardSpace will start (it may be a bit slow the first time it loads).\u00a0 It will verify my site&#39;s certificate, and present it t you so you can decide whether or not to proceed.\u00a0 Click &#8220;Yes, choose a card to send&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 If you are trying CardSpace for the first time, you don&#39;t have a &#8220;Managed&#8221; card yet.\u00a0 So just create a &#8220;Personal Card&#8221; that serves a bit like a username \/ password &#8211; except it\u00a0can&#39;t be phished and protects your privacy\u00a0by automatically using a different key at every site.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>5. You&#39;ll be asked to create a Personal card.\u00a0 Name it with something you&#39;ll recognize, and I recommend you put a picture on it (the picture will never be sent).\u00a0 The name and picture prevent\u00a0many attacks\u00a0since if someone tries to fool you with a CardSpace &#8220;look-alike&#8221;, they won&#39;t know what your Cards look like and you will immediately notice your cards aren&#39;t present!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Use an email address that you control &#8211;\u00a0you will\u00a0have to respond to a confirmation email.\u00a0 Then click SAVE.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 Now you&#39;ll see your saved card, and click SEND.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_4.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0 The information from your card will be used to log in to my site, but I&#39;ll notice you haven&#39;t been here before and send you an email that you must click on to complete registration (I want some way to prevent spammers from bothering me).<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_5.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0 The email I send looks like the one below.\u00a0 IMPORTANT NOTE:\u00a0 this email might be &#8220;eaten&#8221; by your spam protection software (!) , so\u00a0don&#39;t overlook your spam folder\u00a0to find it.\u00a0 (On Hotmail, it doesn&#39;t ever get delivered &#8211; haven&#39;t sorted that out yet.\u00a0 It doesn&#39;t seem to like my little mail server.)\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_6.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0 When you click the embedded link you&#39;ll be taken back to my blog as a verification step.\u00a0 Click on the Information Card logo to log in.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_7.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>10.\u00a0 CardSpace will come up, and will recognize my site.\u00a0 Just click send.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_8.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>11.\u00a0 Et voila&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"\/wp-content\/images\/2008\/10\/cardspace_v1_9.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Press &#8220;Go to Blog&#8221; and you can leave your comment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the future,\u00a0logging in\u00a0will just be a two-step process<\/strong>.\u00a0 Click on the CardSpace logo, click on your personal card, and you will be logged in.\u00a0 No password to remember.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some people think that even with Vista you need to download CardSpace.
